Water Wednesday
If you are reading this, then there’s a very good chance that you are able to access water and, if you live in the United States, it’s probably safe to assume that you have easy access to clean drinking water as well. However, according to the Water Project’s webpage, almost 800 million people around the world do not have adequate access to clean drinking water and more than 2 billion people around the world live without proper sanitation facilities. That number seems to contradict another fact, which states that every day 3,700 children die from diseases caused by unsafe water and poor sanitation.
There’s no denying that the cost of water continues to skyrocket. In fact, in many areas, the price of water has doubled or even tripled in the last decade. A glass of clean water should be accessible to all and not just to those who can afford it. Regardless of who you are or where you come from, you should have access to clean drinking water whenever you want it, as much as you want it, free of charge. However, that’s not the reality we live in today.
While most of us take access to clean water for granted, there are many people in our communities who struggle to get the water they need. For some, this is because they can't afford to pay for water or live in an area with limited resources. Others may not have a safe place to store water or may not be able to physically access clean water sources. This lack of access can lead to dehydration, which can have serious health consequences.
When it comes to access to water, we should all be on the same page. Whether we have a lot or a little, water is essential for life and no one should be without it. That's why our team are working hard to ensure that everyone has access to clean water. By donating money to their cause, you can help provide people with the basic human right of living in good health by making sure they have clean drinking water.
One way to help houseless/homeless individuals is by providing access to water. This can be done in a variety of ways, such as through water fountains or by distributing bottled water.
Additionally, it is important to educate houseless/homeless individuals about the importance of staying hydrated and where they can find sources of clean water. By working together, we can ensure that everyone has the hydration they need to stay healthy and safe.
As an example, we have been able to distribute hundreds of gallons of bottled water across town on our weekly outreach efforts so far this year. We also created a map to show our fellow community members some nearby places they can get free or low-cost filtered water.
Lastly, it's imperative that we provide people with information on how dehydration affects their health and the challenges faced when trying to access adequate water supplies in order to reduce these negative effects.
